Transylvania Mountain Festival 2026 Submissions Are Open
Transylvania Mountain Festival announces that the 2026 submissions are now open and we invite all filmmakers, photographers, mountain sports enthusiasts and mountain related innovation experts to enter the annual competition!
For the ninth year in a row, Transylvania Mountain Festival team from Cluj-Napoca, Romania organizes four thrilling mountain culture competitions that will be celebrated with the TMF mountain film, mountain photography, mountain innovation and mountain excellence awards.
In 2026, Transylvania Mountain Festival announces a vibrant edition, full of sport, exploration, innovation and creativity! By tradition, we launch a new challenge to mountain sports and activities enthusiasts with a theme that we hope will inspire you: ALTITUDES.
About Transylvania Mountain Festival
Founded in 2018, Transylvania Mountain Festival is the first international festival worldwide, on an expedition to reunite creative arts, education, and innovation with the thrill of outdoor sports around an inspiring element: the mountains.
Our mission is to deliver incredible experiences that inspire the next generation towards a safe and environmentally responsible practice of mountain activities such as sports, active tourism, creative activities with the help of innovative technologies.
Each year, we are happy to share the stories, the discoveries and the outstanding experiences of athletes, explorers, creators and mountain communities from around the world, in our small yet picturesque city of Cluj-Napoca, the heart of Transylvania – the famous historical region of Romania.
With the aim to remain authentic, friendly and future oriented, we hope that the 9th edition of the event will be once again the place where your latest mountain stories will meet our enthusiastic community.
The Competitions
Transylvania Mountain Festival structures its main program around four festival competitions that will reunite unique perspectives from around the world. The most appreciated works will be celebrated with the TMF trophies and awards. In the following lines, we will explain the categories and how to enter in competition.
The Mountain Film Competition at Transylvania Mountain Festival 2026 has three main categories: adventure shorts, mountain feature film and mountain documentaries. The submitted works should express your view on the festival’s theme: ALTITUDES.
- Adventure short film: challenges you to resume the entire experience to its core. We’re looking for genuine experiences, at all altitudes, from all mountain sports and activities. Max. duration: 20 minutes.
- Mountain Feature film: this is where you can become creative! For 40 to 75 minutes you are invited to share the stories, the dreams and the challenges faced in the mountains. This year we seek to discover and understand mountain life and environment, through your eyes, at various altitudes.
- Mountain documentary: where reality gets on the big screen! This category aims to bring to the audience, authentic facts and experiences. This year we invite you to present your documentaries on mountain communities, mountain environment, expeditions and athletic experiences from all altitudes.

The competition is open for both professional and amateur filmmakers and videographers.
The Mountain Photography Competition at Transylvania Mountain Festival 2026 has two categories: sports and landscape.
- Mountain sports photography: Highlight your best sporting shots from various altitudes: climbing, tour skiing, free riding, wind skiing, MTB, snowboarding, mountain running, canyoning, paragliding, highlining, mountain river surfing and many more.
- Mountain landscape photography: Capture the beauty of mountains in all seasons and at all altitudes. Unveal those hidden moments that can be grasped only by the eye behind the camera!

The competition is open for both professional and amateur photographers.
The Mountain Innovation Competition at Transylvania Mountain Festival 2026 covers a wide array of fields, in order to bring a broader view on how innovations can support mountain communities.
Present your latest innovative solutions that makes mountain life and mountain experience better and safer: software apps, wearable and mobile equipment and gear, energy related solutions, environment monitoring, protection and conservation, innovative materials, rescue tools and systems, mountain communities education solutions and specialized services.

The competition is open for private companies, NGO’s and research teams.
The Mountain Excellence Competition at Transylvania Mountain Festival 2026 spans across multiple long-term projects and lifetime achievements.
We are looking for outstanding mountain projects and initiatives: projects of both regional and national impact, outstanding projects, biographies and achievements that have had a notable impact in Romania and/or abroad, excellence in various mountain sports.
